Jászapáti names the GREP group as winning bidder

On 24 May 2022, the Municipality of Jászapáti named Oriental Lux Kft., a member of the GREP group, as the winning bidder in the public procurement procedure for the modernisation of public lighting.

Under the tender, our company must complete the design and modernisation of 1,703 public lighting luminaires within six months of signing the contract.

The municipality pays for the investment over 12 years, out of the electricity savings generated by the modernisation, with savings compared to its current costs starting immediately.

With this investment, the municipality contributes to climate protection by saving 106 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.

The project, handed over in 2023, appears on the reference map in its final state of 1,862 luminaires.

GREP becomes 100% carbon-neutral in Hungary

"By 2021, we had become a 100% carbon-neutral business. Our main objective is to introduce new, modern, environmentally friendly technologies that also pay for themselves to as wide a range of our partners as possible, and to gain their acceptance. In doing so, we contribute to Hungary's climate protection commitments under the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement."

Carbon neutrality audited by the BOCS Civilizációtervezés Alapítvány

The company offset the carbon footprint of its operations by purchasing carbon credits. Thanks to GREP's developments, the international registry was able to credit far more carbon units than were needed to offset its own footprint.

As a result, the company is able to sell more than 4,000 tCO₂e of carbon units, a figure that grows each year by roughly another thousand tonnes.

The implementation of the projects was verified by independent experts from iCC, and the audit was carried out by the BOCS Civilizációtervezés Alapítvány. The company uses the proceeds from selling carbon credits to launch further climate protection projects.

One of the largest LED public lighting developments begins in Érd

The city of Érd launched an open, EU-level public procurement procedure for the modernisation and energy-efficient operation of its public lighting. GREP Zrt. won the contract to replace the city's 8,767 public lighting luminaires with LEDs, followed by 15 years of full operation and maintenance of the system.

The development delivers a 60 percent energy saving; this saving covers the cost of the investment, which GREP implements through third-party financing. The replacement runs from April to the end of August, public lighting expenses fall by 6 percent immediately, and lighting quality also improves.

"The essence of the structure is that the return on the investment is secured by the savings generated by the new technology. It is advantageous for municipalities because it does not require a large capital investment, so it can be implemented without state or grant funding."

József Makra, CEO of GREP Zrt.

In the case of Érd, the investment pays for itself by the end of the 12.5th year of the 15-year partnership. Over the course of the contract, GREP not only modernises the luminaires but also provides continuous maintenance and full operation.

A successful public lighting development depends on three factors: proven technology, design documentation that takes local conditions into account, and stable financing.
